Live-In Chef Needed for Bodhi Manda Zen Center

Location: Jemez Springs, New Mexico
Position: Full-Time, On-Site Chef
Compensation: Base salary and extra compensation for workshops. Room and board included as part of total compensation. Wifi, laundry and natural hot springs.

Bodhi Manda Zen Center is seeking a full-time chef to prepare nourishing, vegetarian meals for our meditation retreats and workshops. This is a unique opportunity to live and work in a spiritual environment while supporting the well-being of residents and retreat participants.

Position Details:

  • Prepare 2-3 meals daily for residents.

  • Cook for 3- to 7-day retreats, typically serving 15–30 people per meal.

  • Plan menus based on food donations and available ingredients.

  • Maintain a calm and harmonious kitchen atmosphere in alignment with the center’s spiritual values.

  • Assistants will be provided for larger retreats; the chef must be comfortable directing and delegating tasks.

  • Room and board provided. Wi-fi and laundry available on property

  • Two days off per week.

  • Follow all Department of Health food safety guidelines. Food handler card required.

  • Experience cooking vegetarian meals with vegan and gluten-free options as needed.

  • Scale recipes for large groups and keep records of menus and recipes.

  • Work within a budget and maximize use of donated ingredients.

  • Oversee kitchen cleaning, inventory management, and food storage.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Experience cooking for large groups (restaurant, retreat center, or catering experience preferred).

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.

  • Knowledge of vegetarian cooking with an ability to adapt to dietary needs.

  • Ability to maintain a quiet, mindful work environment.

  • Comfortable leading kitchen staff.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • An interest in Zen practice is encouraged, but not required for this role.

  • The ideal candidate should be interested in long-term residency.
