The Buddhist Tradition of Dana
Dana is a Pali word in the language of the Buddhist scriptures that means “generosity.” Dana is a customary monetary gift of gratitude to the teacher that is offered at the end of a zen retreat, as well as anytime throughout the year. The teacher does not receive any compensation from the fees that we charge for Zen practice events such as sesshin, zazenkai, or full moon sits. Your generosity helps your teacher to lead a simple life, devoted to teaching, and also allows them to take time for their own practice, ensuring that their teachings are continuously enriched.
Dana may be given directly to Hosen or you may leave your gift in the Bodhi office. If you would like to make your gift of dana online by using your credit card, please click on the button.
