Visit the Bodhi

There are several ways to visit the Bodhi and enjoy the quiet surroundings and beauty. If possible, we ask that you plan your visit with us beforehand. You can reach the Bodhi by phone at (575) 829-3854 or email us at office@bmzc.org. The staff is usually available to give you a tour if you are just passing by, please check by the office. The Bodhi is closed on Monday and Tuesday, and for special events listed on our calendar.

The funds raised from visitors, retreats, workshops, and Zen practice events helps to support its mission, and provides essential operating income that keeps the Center a thriving institution.

Zen Practice

The Bodhi offers zen meditation to both experienced sitters and newcomers alike. Practice begins daily at 5 AM with chanting and recitation in the Sutra Hall. You are welcome to join our 5 AM sitting and other daily sittings anytime; there are no fees, but dana is gratefully accepted. Remember that the center is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Zazenkais, sesshins, and traditional Buddhist celebrations are held on a regular basis. Please visit our Events page for the current schedule. Fees for these events may apply. Fees for Sesshin and Zazenaki includes the full program, lodging, and meals. If you are new to Zen practice, the staff can help you get started.

In addition to Zen practitioners, the Bodhi welcomes committed inquirers of all faiths or of no faith to sit in quiet meditation or contemplation in the Sutra Hall or Zendo. It is helpful to let us know that you are coming beforehand, but you may also stop by the office and let the staff know that you would like some quiet time at the Bodhi. There are a few simple rules.
